Bridal showers, Babies and Birthdays

The past few weeks have been full of all the usual activity and then some extras. My eldest daughter had a bridal shower a few weeks ago and it was really amazing. I think what was so amazing was two young ladies- 13 years old and 11 years old, did alot to make the day a special day.

One of our dear church members- Belinda- created a spectacular cake. It was in the form of a wedding dress!! She is absolutely amazing with her cake creations (and her other food) as can be seen on her blog- belzyskitchen.

Right after the bridal shower, my son and his wife and daughter arrived. My granddaughter has stolen my heart!! It has been wonderful having her around. I just wish they lived close by and I could see her more. (they live in another state) While they have been here, we discovered my granddaughter is going to be a big sister :)....YES!!! Another grandbaby on the way- great news!

In the midst of celebrations and family coming and other activity- I had a birthday. It was one of those "significant" ones :) I'll talk more about that later....but I must say my family and friends out did themselves on this one. I'm not a 'birthday' type person- inotherwords, I'd rather my birthdays came and went with out much ado -- but they did not allow this to happen- and actually all they did was much appreciated.

At our weekly Ladies Bible study- they surprised me with a cake and gifts- oh my- the cake looked like a tea pot because that is my absolute favorite thing....tea...tea cups...tea pots...drinking tea. Of course, it was Belinda who made the cake. As I said, she is absolutely amazing with her cake designs. The cake tasted so good.

TOn my birthday itself, my family tricked me. The girls said they were taking me out for coffee...by this time I thought I was all birthdayed out. I tried to get out of going for coffee- "why not we just hang out with the boys" I asked. They would not hear of it. So we jumbled into my daughter's car and drove away. "But before we go for coffee we need to stop off at Param's house" they told me. This seemed to be a reasonable thing to do because there was something I had to pick up from her house. Oh the rascals, they had planned a surprise birthday brunch! Brunch is my favorite meal...and Param outdid herself with the decor and the menu! My family were tickled pink that they had pulled one over on me...and of course, I was in tears! (happy tears)

War Stories

My friend, Deborah, just sent me a text..."Painful contractions every 10 minutes last 24 hours straight. Very exhausted from pain and no sleep"...oh boy, if you are a woman and you have had a baby- you've 'been there and done that'!!

A few weeks ago, Deborah hosted a Passover Meal at her house. At the end of the meal, we were all exchanging war stories about our various birth experiences. Deborah has never had a baby before and there were some young women who aren't even married. I think they were about to sign a document saying they would never think of having a baby! We were all laughing ... you know those belly laughs... I'm laughing now just thinking of it.

Why do you think moms love retelling their birthing experiences? I have had complete strangers relate their unique birthing experience. I guess there is a feeling of 'sisterhood' and a bonding which goes along with the sharing of these 'war stories'

I have three such stories, but all three of mine end in an emergency C-section...each a month before I was actually due. Apparently, although I love babies and having them, my body doesn't like taking care of babies. My body actually tries to starve the poor little things and they come out looking like refugees. Each baby was smaller than the one before, until I had my third weighing just 4 pounds something ounces. Once out of my body they immediately plump up and are just fine. Go figure!

I never knew this about my body- with my first baby- so poor little guy, we had quite a scare with him. Plus I had another problem, with my first baby, called Placenta Pervia- this resulted (in my case) of horrible hemorrhaging. Thankfully I had great doctors and nurses...and my son is now married with his own daughter!

So what are your war stories?

Isn't she adorable? Less than a day old!

* Deborah's daughter, Tirzah Jewel, was born at 10.37 pm on May 17th 2011- CONGRATULATIONS Deborah and Daniel (and of course Tirzah) !!

2009-USA-BIG NEWS!!!!!

Today started out like any other day. I looked at my calendar and it was full. I managed to squeeze in some time to spend with a dear friend of mine- that made my day brighter. Then I came home and checked the mail. I did not check my email; I checked the regular mail. The kind people have to put a stamp on and stick in a post box. There was a mysterious envelope amongst my letters. It was from my son, Sean and his wife, Neisha.

I tore open the envelope and out tumbled a little onesie with these words written on it:

Well, I may not be the sharpest tack around but I certainly know a clue when I'm staring at it!! I started screaming. My husband tried to calm me down.

"What are you screaming about?"

I shoved the onesie in his face and he said, "Don't jump to conclusions"

I just kept screaming and I grabbed the phone and called Sean and Neisha.

"You aren't joking right?? This isn't a joke, right?"

"What??"

"I just opened your package."

Then they laughed. I grinned from ear to ear; I knew the laugh meant I was right. They told me I am going to be a grandma by the beginning of next year.

My day suddenly got a whole lot better.

And time marches on

Time doesn't wait for any person. One minute you are in 2018 and the next thing you know, 6 years have passed and you are in 2024! Of c...
