Wild Wednesday- More Love

In keeping with the whole 'love theme' I dug out some old photographs of my wedding day. I had to laugh at many of the photos, because I'm the most non-photogenic person around. In many of the pictures my eyes are blinking just when the camera is clicking. It was quite a feat to find some 'good' shots.

900 + people in a hall for 5000
Someone created a beautiful sign for us
Digging through the pictures, made me remember what an amazing day my wedding day was.

When my hubby and I decided to get married, we hardly knew each other. We knew God had brought us together. We had around 300 Singapore dollars (approximately 150 US with the exchange rate in those days) between the two of us. How do you plan a wedding for almost a thousand people with that limited budget?

This is where we saw God's Word to be true. He promises to supply all our needs according to HIS riches in Heaven. He certainly provided all our needs for the wedding. We never told a living soul how much money we had, we just said, "We are getting married" and then we proceeded to invite everyone. We started planning for the wedding in June and we were married the first of August.

cutting the wedding cake
Every day proved to be a miracle. Someone called me up and said, "Where are you buying your cake?"

I replied, "I'm checking out some options"

"Don't bother, I'll buy your cake for you!"

The vows
Someone else called my husband and said, "God told me to buy your wedding suit."

Another lady called me and said, "How many do you expect for your wedding?"

"Around 900 or so."

"Do you have a caterer."

"uhm, you mean I have to feed people?" No, I didn't say that, but that was what I wanted to say. I actually said, "I haven't hired a caterer yet."

"I was praying this morning and God told me to take care of the catering- so you don't worry about it!"

Tick tick tick, slowly things were getting clicked off my  'to do' list...my grandmother's diamond was set in gold, which had been given to us with explicit instructions that it be melted down and made into wedding rings.

the beautiful gown
The wedding dress was quite amazing. My mom and I went into a boutique which was renowned for their wedding dresses. In Singapore (in those days) most brides just rented their wedding dress. I went to see if there were any dresses in my budget. I almost had a seizure when I saw the prices of the gowns. We were almost going to leave but the owner of the shop recognized my mom. She asked what we were doing there and my mom tried to politely excuse herself.

The owner of the boutique said, "You know what....I want to custom make your daughter's wedding dress for free...I only ask that you acknowledge me on the wedding programme."

"eh...em...sure...how do you spell your name??"

"You may kiss the bride"

"Can we go home now?"
The most stress free wedding ever. God provided every last detail for us. I just showed up and walked down the aisle.

Its so good to remind myself of that day, because it was a small example of how God has continued to do amazing things throughout my life. I have found that there is nothing too insignificant that He ignores it; also, there is nothing too big that He can't handle it. He cares about the details and He also can handle the impossibilities. His love never ceases to amaze me!

Motherhood 2009

Reflections tagged me to post five things I love about being a Mom.

1. I love watching the children find out who they are

It has been such a delight to see each child grow into who they are meant to be. To be able to be a part of that experience is priceless.

2. I enjoy having this compulsory relationship :)

Whether they like it or not- I'm their mom- and what thrills me the most is they say they like it!! But it is nice to know that no matter what 'they are stuck with me' - hee hee!

3. I love doing 'fun' stuff together

In the past, it was 'unbirthday' parties-- oh how I loved those- and I do miss them. Impromptu 'fun' tea parties, picnics, or dinners- celebrating all of us. Now I enjoy the games we play when they come and visit- the long talks- and still...the picnics!

4. I love how Motherhood has changed me

Motherhood has a way of grinding the rough edges off a person. When you are just too tired to take another step- you have to anyways coz this little person is looking to you for help. When you want the last piece of pie...you find yourself giving it to your little one coz afterall they need it more than you do.

5. I love being a mom because it has made me realize I have a capacity to love so many more people and children

Being a mom stretched me- it caused me to understand my love was not limited- it would not run out- there was enough not only for my own family but also for so many others.

weddings - Japan 1995

The first wedding I went to in the United States was when I was almost 19. I thought I was at a funeral. It was so quiet. I looked around and wondered why everyone was so somber; afterall, wasn't this a joyous event?

Weddings in Singapore were quite the occasion. It didn't matter which cultural group was celebrating their wedding, there was always lots of
color, music, and people. I grew up with weddings being wonderful, fun occasions.

Going t
o Japan, I was curious as to how their weddings were going to be. I found some to be quiet, serious occasions but also there were lively weddings. Since our church was a multicultural church we enjoyed all sorts of weddings. Filipino weddings- boy was the food good! Ghanaian weddings- can we say PARTY! Japanese weddings- a touch of class. Chinese weddings- traditional tea ceremony included.

I think
my favorite memory about the weddings- no matter who was involved- was the way everyone joined together to make it the best day of the bride and groom's life! Everyone came out to decorate the hall. There were those who volunteered to cook the food. Others were ready to be an usher or to serve the food. Everyone did the part creating a wonderful day for all.

With all the
countries I've traveled to, Japan included, I realize 'love' is a universal language spoken by everyone. Seeing love showcased in a wedding can be a very beautiful thing. Whether it is demonstrated in a quiet manner or in a loud manner, love shines magnificently for all to see.

And time marches on

Time doesn't wait for any person. One minute you are in 2018 and the next thing you know, 6 years have passed and you are in 2024! Of c...
