Weddings and more

Last week contained a flurry of preparation for Bryan and Kristine's wedding...appointments...commitments, etc. My brain simply went on auto pilot. When I started the week, I had no idea how I was going to juggle every thing I had to do. By the end of the week, I had done all that needed to be done, plus more.

Belinda made a GREAT cake! the 2 Hillarys help out
How did I accomplish everything? There were two very important ingredients to tackling what needed to be done. Number one, I simply did one thing at a time. I didn't allow my mind to dwell too long on all the other things I had to do. Number two, I forced myself to let other people do what they could to help. (BIG achievement for me- being a very 'I can do it myself' type person)

We do need each other. A burden gets just a bit lighter when others are there to carry it with us. A joy shines a bit brighter when we have people to share it with us. I saw this in action over the weekend. Bryan's wedding went smoothly because there were so many people who joined in to help. Each task was a little less difficult because there were others to take up the slack.

  1. @Anjuli,

I am glad wedding went well. When I have too much work to do, I make a list and do one thing at a time. I try to perform some activities parallel if possible but I plan like that.

  2. @ A- that is the best way to handle tasks, isn't it? Make a list and do one thing at a time- possibly work on parallel items if it is possible.

  3. delegation is the key...is what ive been told time and again. but i find hard too....i feel instead of spending time instructing someone on what i want done and how...id rather do it myself! :)
of course it means LOTS of running around for me.

  4. I am glad wedding went off well. Kudos to you Anjuli !
I don't know how I'd have done it since both number 1 & 2 are not my cup of tea. :)
I do multi-tasking & want to do some of the things myself. I need to learn from you. :)

  5. Good for you!
I have HUGE issues with both multitasking (I do it way too often) and delegating (hardly ever do it).
I'm glad the wedding went well :)

  6. @ Limenlemons - hee hee- you sound alike like me :)

@ Nisha - Oh boy- do not learn from me, I'm still learning- and keep finding I want to do all by myself!!

@ Christine- sounds like we are both in the same boat.

  7. Great example of "It takes a Village," and taking advantage of the help that's there, asking for it, and receiving it. Taking one thing at a time is a good way to live as well. I'll be initiating that philosophy when I once again tackle my desk and put files in the new folders. Can't wait. It's a holiday weekend, I know, but I have no specific plans and am happy to take advantage of the extra time.

  8. @Christine, I keep meaning to tell you. I've tried to post on your blog several times. Tried again today on your post about coloring your daughter's hair with streaks, but I can't get in. Don't know why. Wondering if you knew.

  9. @ Jackie- yes I'm learning to do the 'one thing at a time' thing :)...so used to trying to juggle the entire world- so it is a good learning experience for me.

@ Christine- yep, what Jackie said- when I try to post it won't allow me to post- and it also doesn't allow me to click on anything on your page- like your contact info etc. Not sure what is going on.
